As is the case with all European universities, education at the University of Reunion Island is structured around the LMD (Licence - Master - Doctorate) system. Studies are organised into three cycles : Bachelor's degree (Licence) which is awarded after 3 years of higher education, that is to say 180 ECTS credits, Master's degree, equivalent to a total of 300 ECTS credits, which marks 2 years of postgraduate study and Doctorate which is obtained following 3 years of study and research after a Master's degree.
Applicants from EU/EEA need to pass a French language test, unlike students who finished a French high school. If you are not a citizen of the EU or the European Economic Area, you must obtain a student long-stay visa (one year with “STUDENT status") before leaving your country and whatever the degree required. The request must be made to the French consulate in your country of residence. The application process for University of Reunion Island follows the standards of French universities in general. However, for private institutions this might vary depending on each individual facility. All courses in Reunion are taught in French.
If you are a citizen or already a permanent resident of a country within the EEA the tuition fees are as in France: 170 Euros per year for Bachelor’s (Licence) programmes, 243 Euros per year for Master’s programmes, 380 Euros per year for Doctorate (PhD) programmes.
However, all other international students are charged higher amounts for Bachelors and Masters degrees: 2,770 Euros per year for Bachelor’s (Licence) programmes, 3,770 Euros per year for Master’s programmes, 380 Euros per year for Doctorate (PhD) programmes - the same amount as for Europeans.
